Ambassador Scholarship | BBB Pacific Southwest

DID YOU KNOW? IN 2018…

  • There were more than 14,000 cases of identity theft reported by those 19 & under

  • Online purchase scams were the most reported scam with 75% susceptibility

  • Millennials fell for scams more often than older individuals but had lower median losses

Do You Want to Become an Expert at Coaching Your Peers to Become Informed Consumers?

The BBB Ambassador Program arms students nearing college and beyond with resources and tools for navigating credit and budgeting, online safety, rentals and housing, student loans and scholarships, and employment scams. These scenarios are increasingly hard to navigate, and ambassadors will deliver presentations to their peers with tips and resources on this information. Ensuring that our youth are equipped with a method for approach prevents situations that yield loss and distress.

Students may participate alone or as part of a pair or team. Teams must not exceed three members, and winning teams will divide scholarship winnings. Each team member must submit their application to be considered for a scholarship. Each BBB Ambassador or team is responsible for delivering a minimum of three presentations any time from September 1 through November 29. You may present to groups of all sizes, but the higher number of students presented to, the greater your chances of winning one of three scholarships awarded to the students that present to the most number of peers throughout the duration of the program! You are invited to exceed the minimum presentation requirement. BBB is available to assist if you anticipate a larger audience.

This scholarship program is on pause for the 2021-2022 school year. Please check back next school year.

HERE'S HOW...

Download the BBB Ambassador presentation, read-along script and monthly tally sheets below. You will use the read-along script to deliver the presentation that have each been created for you. Do not edit the presentation or alter content. However, you may move through slides and modify speaking points to compliment time allotments or restraints per audience.

Each time you share the presentation with your peer groups, you will have a teacher or supervisor count the total number of peer aged audience members before they sign off on your tally sheet. Peer groups must consist of peers, students or youth. Adults and children may attend, but will not count towards your total tally. Presentations can be coordinated through your school or other extracurriculars with a supervisor present. Speak with your teachers, coaches and other leaders to see about fitting your demonstration into the schedule.

As a reminder, you may conduct your minimum requirement of three presentations any time from September 1st through November 29th. Presentations given during a month must be submitted in accordance with the following timeline to count towards your total, unless you did not present during that month. For example, a presentation delivered during September may not be submitted or included in the tally for the month of October.

*Audiences must be verified with supervisor or teacher signature.

HOW DO I BENEFIT?

Each student that completes the program will receive an official BBB Ambassador certificate recognizing their contribution of volunteer time and dedication to coaching your peers on becoming smart consumers. The public speaking experience that is gained from the program serves as a resume builder for students looking to expand their skill set. There are three scholarships available, awarded to the top three students that present to the most number of students throughout the duration of the program. An awards ceremony will be held in December to honor students for their efforts of spreading this imperative information amongst their peers, where they will receive their accolades. Your high school community will greatly profit from the value of this educational opportunity.
